Love Next Door Ending Explained: Do Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu Get Married?

by finditnote 2026. 8. 9.

Love Next Door ends with Choi Seung-hyo and Bae Seok-ryu happily together and planning their future as a couple.

They do not have a wedding in the final episode, but their families approve of the relationship, Seung-hyo designs the house they will live in, and Seok-ryu asks to postpone the wedding for one year while she focuses on her restaurant.

So yes, Love Next Door has a clear happy ending.

SPOILER WARNING: Major spoilers for the final episodes below.

Q1. Does Love Next Door Have a Happy Ending?

Yes.

Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu end the drama as a committed couple with plans to get married.

Their relationship is accepted by both families, and the final scene shows them walking together while playfully arguing as usual.

There is no breakup or tragic twist.

Q2. Do Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu Get Married?

Not yet.

The drama does not show an actual wedding ceremony.

Seung-hyo is already designing the house they will live in together, and both families have accepted their marriage.

However, Seok-ryu asks to delay the wedding for about one year because she wants to focus on growing her new restaurant.

Seung-hyo agrees.

So the ending makes it clear that they plan to marry, just not immediately.

Q3. Why Did Seok-ryu Return to Korea?

At first, Seok-ryu appears to have suddenly quit her prestigious job in the United States and ended her engagement.

Later, the real reason is revealed.

Seok-ryu had been diagnosed with stomach cancer while living in the US.

She went through treatment with her former fiancé, Song Hyeon-jun, but also suffered from depression afterward.

After struggling again when she returned to work, she eventually quit everything and went back to Korea to start over.

Q4. Does Seok-ryu's Cancer Come Back?

No major recurrence is shown by the end of the drama.

Instead, Seok-ryu begins rebuilding her life around something she genuinely enjoys: cooking.

She earns a Korean cooking certificate, starts making food content, and eventually opens her own restaurant.

Her ending focuses more on recovery and finding a life that feels meaningful to her.

Q5. What Happens to Seok-ryu's Career?

Seok-ryu realizes that her former corporate career is no longer what she wants.

She discovers that cooking makes her happy and begins seriously pursuing it.

By the ending, she opens a restaurant in the space previously used by her father's tteokbokki shop.

Her restaurant becomes successful, giving Seok-ryu a completely new career path.

Q6. What Happens to Mo-eum and Dan-ho?

Jeong Mo-eum and Kang Dan-ho also get a happy ending.

Dan-ho initially keeps his distance because he is raising his niece Yeon-du as his daughter after losing his family.

Eventually, he accepts his feelings for Mo-eum, and her mother also approves of their relationship.

Mo-eum later receives the opportunity she has always wanted: working in Antarctica.

The couple begins a long-distance relationship and stays connected through video calls.

Why Is the Drama Called Love Next Door?

The Korean title literally refers to a “mom's friend's son,” a common expression for the seemingly perfect child your mother always compares you to.

Seung-hyo fits that image: successful, smart and handsome.

But the drama expands beyond that idea.

It is also about mothers, childhood friends, parents, siblings and people who have known each other for most of their lives.

That is why the story often feels more like a family healing drama than a pure romantic comedy.

Quick Review

I started Love Next Door because Jung Hae-in was doing a full romantic comedy, but the drama ended up focusing much more on family, friendship and healing than I expected.

The childhood-friends-to-lovers romance is cute, and Jung Hae-in looks especially good in the bright, warm visual style of the series.

However, viewers expecting a romance-heavy rom-com may find the family storylines more dominant than expected.

Personally, I thought the drama sometimes tried a little too hard to create warm and emotional moments.

Still, it is an easy, comforting watch with a satisfying ending.

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
