A Bona Fide Killer Episodes 1–6 Explained: Who Is Kingfisher and Will Tae-sung Discover Bo-na’s Secret?

by finditnote 2026. 8. 21.

A Bona Fide Killer follows Yoo Bo-na, a working mother who appears to be an ordinary manager at Durumi Electronics but is secretly a legendary sniper known as Kingfisher. The drama is still airing, so this article covers the story through Episode 6 only. The official English title is A Bona Fide Killer.

What makes the setup especially dangerous is that Bo-na’s husband, reporter Kwon Tae-sung, once investigated Kingfisher — and the assassin suddenly becomes active again just as his wife returns from maternity leave.

SPOILER WARNING: Spoilers for A Bona Fide Killer Episodes 1–6 below.

Q1. Who Is Yoo Bo-na in A Bona Fide Killer?

Yoo Bo-na is both a working mother and the legendary assassin known as Kingfisher.

To her family, she is a manager in Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics who has just returned to work after three years of maternity leave.

But Durumi Electronics is actually a cover for a secret organization, and Bo-na is one of its most skilled killers.

Her specialty is long-range sniping, and she is famous for taking down her targets with a single shot.

Q2. Why Is Yoo Bo-na Called Kingfisher?

Bo-na earned the nickname Kingfisher because of her precise one-shot sniping style.

She waits patiently from a high position, watches her target, and strikes at exactly the right moment.

Her ability to complete a mission with a single bullet has made her a legendary figure within the organization.

Q3. What Is Durumi Electronics Sales Team 3?

Sales Team 3 is not a normal corporate department — it is a cover for a secret team that deals with criminals who have escaped legal punishment.

The team refers to targets as “clients” and missions as “meetings.”

They do not always kill their targets. Sometimes they try to force criminals to confess or hand them over to the police, while more extreme cases are dealt with directly.

Each member also has a different specialty, including sniping, poisoning, hacking, weapons, medical expertise, and staging deaths as accidents.

Q4. Who Is Oh Hyun-nam, and Why Does She Follow Bo-na?

Oh Hyun-nam is a poison specialist who has a personal connection to Bo-na from childhood.

Before joining Sales Team 3, Hyun-nam worked as a freelance assassin.

She is eventually revealed to be Oh Seung-ah, the child Bo-na once saved years earlier.

Kingfisher became something of a hero to her, so Hyun-nam is initially disappointed to discover that the legendary assassin is now married, raising a child, and living an ordinary family life.

But after working with Bo-na, she gradually becomes one of her most devoted followers.

Q5. Does Kwon Tae-sung Know His Wife Is Kingfisher?

Not yet — but the timing is becoming increasingly suspicious.

Tae-sung is a journalist who previously covered Kingfisher.

Kingfisher had been inactive during Bo-na’s three-year maternity leave, only to suddenly return at almost exactly the same time Bo-na goes back to work.

Tae-sung has not reached the conclusion that his wife is Kingfisher yet, but Kingfisher’s return pulls him back into an investigation that is getting dangerously close to his own family.

Q6. Why Is Tae-sung Investigating Kingfisher Again?

Kingfisher becomes personally relevant to Tae-sung again after one of the people he is investigating is killed by the assassin.

Tae-sung had been pursuing construction company chairman Cheon Seong-gil as part of his work as a reporter.

But his investigation unexpectedly collides with Bo-na’s mission at a casino.

When Cheon Seong-gil ends up being killed by Kingfisher, Tae-sung is shocked that the assassin he once followed has suddenly reappeared in the middle of one of his own stories.

That makes his renewed interest in Kingfisher much more personal.

Q7. What Happens During the Casino Mission?

Bo-na kills two targets with a single bullet.

Tae-sung enters the casino while investigating Cheon Seong-gil, while Sales Team 3 is there to deal with sex offender Tak Jong-gu.

Another team is also targeting Cheon Seong-gil, causing the two missions to overlap.

Bo-na waits for the perfect moment from a cable car.

When the two targets line up in her scope, she fires one shot that takes down both men.

It is one of the clearest demonstrations so far of why Kingfisher has such a legendary reputation.

The scene is also especially tense because Tae-sung is nearby investigating the same incident without realizing that the sniper is his own wife.

Q8. Who Is Lee Dong-jin?

Lee Dong-jin is a detective determined to uncover Kingfisher’s identity.

Unlike the members of Sales Team 3, Dong-jin believes criminals should be punished through the legal system rather than through private executions.

He begins carefully studying Kingfisher’s movements and methods, making him another serious threat to Bo-na’s double life.

This creates two separate forms of pressure around her: her journalist husband is getting drawn back into the Kingfisher story, while a police detective is actively hunting the assassin.

Q9. Is There a Secret Behind How Bo-na and Tae-sung First Met?

Yes. Episodes 1–6 strongly suggest that their first meeting involved something neither the audience nor Tae-sung fully understands yet.

The drama has begun revealing pieces of the couple’s past, suggesting that their marriage may be connected to Bo-na’s life as Kingfisher in ways that have not been fully explained.

Since the drama is still airing, this remains one of the biggest unanswered mysteries after Episode 6.

Q10. Is A Bona Fide Killer Worth Watching So Far?

Yes — the first six episodes are entertaining, fast-paced, and surprisingly good at balancing family comedy with assassin action.

The strongest idea is that Bo-na’s life as a working mother directly affects how she operates as a killer.

She still has missions to complete, but she also has childcare, housework, work schedules, and a husband who could discover everything.

That contrast gives the drama its black-comedy charm.

At the same time, Tae-sung getting closer to Kingfisher and Dong-jin investigating her identity provide enough suspense to keep the story from becoming purely episodic.

Quick Review

I started A Bona Fide Killer mainly because Gong Hyo-jin dramas are usually worth checking out, and so far I am having a lot of fun with this one.

The combination of a working mother and a legendary sniper sounds ridiculous on paper, but it works surprisingly well.

One of my favorite details is that Bo-na has to think about childcare even while completing assassination missions. The idea that she needs to finish dangerous work during the day because she has to take care of her daughter later is exactly the kind of black comedy this drama does well.

The action is also satisfying because most of the targets are terrible people who have escaped proper punishment. Watching Sales Team 3 deal with them gives the series a strong sense of catharsis.

The casino sequence was especially fun. Tae-sung and Bo-na moving through the same situation without him realizing his wife is Kingfisher made the tension much stronger than the action alone.

Gong Hyo-jin is also a great fit for Bo-na because she can make both sides of the character feel believable — the exhausted working mother and the cold, highly skilled assassin.

The biggest question for me now is simple: when is Tae-sung finally going to realize that Kingfisher has been living in the same house as him?

The drama is still airing, so my final opinion could change, but Episodes 1–6 have definitely convinced me to keep watching.

Current Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
